Totus Tuus summer program

Hey folks,

Do you know a college student who has a heart for ministry, and who is also looking for something wonderful to be involved in this summer?  If so, please tell them about the Totus Tuus program (see description below).  We are looking for two male and two female college students to be missionaries for this program here in the Diocese of Birmingham this summer.  If you do know someone who is interested, please have them contact my assistant, Michele Haynie (mhaynie@bhmdiocese.org; 205-776-7179) and ask for an application. We have a deadline for applications of a week from Friday, so they need to hurry.

Totus Tuus is a summer youth catechetical program led by college-aged missionary teams of two men and two women.  Each week, teams travel to a different parish to run a mission-style program for children and youth in grades 1- 12. At each parish, the team puts on the mission during the day for the younger kids and then for the teens at night.  The missionaries go through a week-long training session (May 22 – 30) to fully integrate themselves into the program and learn how to teach lessons, sing songs, and play games with the children, as well as how to interact with parish leadership to implement the program.  Parish missions are each week, from May 31 – July 31, with a week off during 4th of July week (July 3 – 11).  Each missionary will be compensated $175.00 per week, including Training Week. The team is housed and fed by parish families and staff at each parish.  This is a great way to spend the summer helping evangelize young Catholics and earn some extra money while doing it.

Below is a "testimonial" from one young man of the impact that Totus Tuus had on him:

Hello, I am a member of St. Paul's in Athens Al, and a member of Sacred Heart Student Center in Mobile. I am a freshman at the University of South Alabama…Last summer, I was blessed with the opportunity to attend the Totus Tuus "summer camp" for teens, and I aided the missionaries in their daily vacation bible study events. Those young missionaries changed my life and put me on the road that I needed to be on to find God.  I talked with the missionaries over the summer and they thought that I would be a good missionary and told me to apply to be a Totus Tuus Missionary…I would love to possibly help change someone’s life through God like how I was changed last summer…God bless!

It's an awesome program!
